People are required to live by reality. Even the gods have their dharma to fulfil, and that makes it an important aspect of the Hindu society. People have different dharma, which is influenced by caste, gender, and stages of life. Dharma resulted in the caste system which categorized people based on the roles they play in the society. The categories had a hierarchy that consisted of Brahmans, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. The caste system regulated the manner in which people interacted, married, and even worked. For instance, the Shudras are servants whose roles are to take care of the other classes.Dharma also influences the stages of life in the Hindu society. People get to undergo four stages namely Brahmacharya, householder, retiree, and renouncer. In the Brahmacharya stage, boys of a ges 12-13 years study religious scriptures and the Veda and spend time with their gurus. The householder stage involves marriage, and people are encouraged to express themselves sexually. The retiree stage involves the phase in which couples no longer have children in their households, and they can focus on meditation, self-discipline, and studies. The renouncer stage is rare and involves people practicing sannyasin. Here, people will focus more on giving back to the society most of their material property.The dharma has influences on gender as men are portrayed to be dominant in the society.
